(Turned down by Provost) SEPTEMBER 25, 2001: Motion 01/02:03: The Faculty Senate recommends that the name of the artist Jose Maria Mijares be placed on the list of individuals eligible to receive an Honorary Degree. OCTOBER 9, 2001, BISCAYNE BAY CAMPUS: Motion 01/02:04: The Faculty Senate approves the Specialty Track in Learning Technologies in the Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction that was originally presented in Bulletin #6 for 2001. analysis in health and urban affairs practice settings Motion 01/02:06: The Faculty Senate recommends the name of Vaclav Havel to be placed on the list of individuals eligible to receive Honorary Degrees.
Motion 01/02:07: The Faculty Senate recommends the name of Archbishop Pedro Meurice of Santiago de Cuba to be placed on the list of individuals eligible to receive Honorary Degrees. Motion 01/02:08: The Faculty Senate recommends approval of the recently compiled policies of the Undergraduate Council.Motion 01/02:09: The Faculty Senate approves the Master of Science in Industrial Engineering Information Systems Engineering Track. OCTOBER 30, 2001: Motion 01/02:10: The Faculty Senate acknowledges the university administration’s comparative advantage and asks the administration to propose strategic budgetary initiatives as are cost effective and fair. The Faculty Senate requests that the administration allow the Senate to review proposals and to be responsive to any Senate recommendations before implementation. Such a review will focus on the effect any proposal has on academic quality, research commitment and service to the community. The Faculty Senate reaffirms the standing of the UFF in contractual matters. Motion 01/02:11: The Faculty Senate further recommends that the administration, through electronic means, solicit suggestions from the community regarding effecting means of reducing costs, and post these suggestions at a site available to the entire university community. Motion 01/02:12: In reviewing budget initiatives, the Faculty Senate requests that the administration set forth complete and comparative proposal packages within appropriate budget categories (e.g., operations, administrative positions, faculty - including adjuncts, and other similar categories). To share the urgency of the budget crisis, the Senate urges the university administration to take instantaneous action to save budget dollars (as in closing portions of the university on weekends - except for essential operations). NOVEMBER 20, 2001: Motion 01/02:13: The Faculty Senate recommends The new procedures for Academic Misconduct were approved unanimously by the Faculty Senate. Motion 01/02:14: Elected officials and political appointees will be considered for Honorary Degrees using the same criteria used for other nominees. Motion 01/02:15: After receiving the results of the online faculty evaluation of chairs and deans, the Director of Institutional Research will forward all results to the Provost, all the results of each unit to the respective dean, and the results of the evaluations of the deans and chairs/directors of a particular department to all members of the respective department or its equivalent. DECEMBER 4, 2001 Motion 01/02:16: Recognizing the value of faculty input, the need for unity within the university community, and the furtherance of collegiality, the Faculty Senate requests that the President invite a representative of the Faculty Senate to join the Executive Committee and Executive Council as a non-voting member. Motion 01/02:17: The Faculty Senate approves EDF 6475, Quantitative Foundations of Educational Research from Curriculum Bulletin #1. Motion 01/02:18: Faculty Senate approves the Bachelor of Arts in Asian Studies. Motion 01/02:19: The Faculty Senate recommends of Bulletin #2, with the following change to LAA 4XXX and 5XXX (p.21)GIS Applications in Landscape Architecture changed to GIS Applications in Landscape Models Motion 01/02: 20: The Faculty Senate accepts the policies and procedures in section 11 (Information Resources) of the Academic Affairs Policies and Procedures Manual, as amended by the Faculty Senate Technology Committee and the Faculty Senate. (See Minutes for details) JANUARY 29, 2002 Motion 01/02:21: The Faculty Senate approves the Bachelor of Science Degree in Biomedical Engineering. Motion 01/02:22: The Faculty Senate approves Bulletin #3 with one correction--the changes to the Master of Science in Finance are from the College of Business. Motion 01/02:23: The Faculty Senate approves the Graduate Council Policies and Procedures Manual, with the following editorial changes:
Motion 01/02:24: The Faculty Senate recommends that the Graduate Council draw up criteria for the establishment of the graduate faculty to be presented at the next meeting. Motion 01/02:25: The Faculty Senate moves to approve the University Calendar for 2002/2003. Motion 01/02:26: The Faculty Senate officially endorses the Florida Education Rally to be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2002, in solidarity with the Florida Education Rally, scheduled to take place at the same time in Tallahassee. FEBRUARY 19, 2002 Motion 01/02:27: For future terms, class caps shall not exceed the capacity of the classroom. (Not approved by Provost) Motion 01/02:28: The Faculty Senate approves the Master of Science in Nursing, Nursing Executive Track. MARCH 12, 2002: Motion 01/02:29: The Faculty Senate requests that whether or not it is on the web, all professors be permitted to use university facilities to print syllabi for their classes beginning with Summer Term 2002. Motion 01/02:30: - Article V. Committees Under A. 15. Faculty Senate Nature Preserve Committee The Mission of the Nature Preserve Committee is to preserve, protect and restore the ecological values of the Preserve as a resource for teaching, research and community access. The Nature Preserve Committee shall report and make recommendations (as motions) to the Steering Committee addressing any issues affecting the preservation, protection and restoration of the Nature Preserve. By-Laws: Add to Article II, Elections. C (new paragraph) Members of the Nature Preserve Committee will be appointed by the Chair of the Faculty Senate with the approval of the Steering Committee. Terms of office will be for two years. Motion 01/02:31: 1. In addition to the dates, the academic calendar must include the days of the week for each item/date, 2. semesters will begin on a Monday 3. any deviation from this policy must have the approval of the Faculty Senate. Motion 01/02:32: The Faculty Senate moves approval of changes to EDF 5481 and EDF 6486 from Bulletin #1: Change to EDF 6403 with the following new name: "Data Analysis in Multivariate Educational Research" and new description "Design of multivariate research projects in education." The course focuses on applications of multivariate data analysis to educational research using a non-matrix approach."
