Motion #23-07:

The University goal of becoming a recognized research institution is better served by incentives to principal investigators to receive enough money to actually carry out the research. Practical limitations of obtaining and implementing grants often restricts them. At the same time, the University must fund and operate a viable research infrastructure to distribute money in a way which will best support university-wide research opportunities. The following plan is deemed most appropriate to propose to the Faculty Senate:

RECOVERED INDIRECT COSTS

Old Allogation Plan                              New Allocation Plan

Motion #23-08:

A subcommittee shall be appointed to study the issue of a separate North Miami Campus Senate and, if necessary, properly propose a constitutional amendment.

Motion #23-09:

The Faculty Senate approves Curriculum Bulletin #4.

Motion #23-10:

The Faculty Senate believes that the current procedure for graduation at FIU has been lacking in decorum related to the increased numbers of degree recipients. We recommend that an overall graduation ceremony be held where the President confers degrees by college and that each individual school or college would then have its own ceremony to recognize its Master and Bachelor degree recipients. We recommend that this motion be acted upon no earlier than Fall 1993. Such a trial must be reviewed by the Faculty Senate before it becomes a permanent procedure.

Motion #23-11:

The Faculty Senate recommends to the Office of the Provost that printed drafts of existing Academic Affairs Policies and Procedures be made available for university review by the end of this semester. To aid in this endeavor we urge cooperation by university divisions and departments and the provision of resources as needed.
